PREREQUISITES
This course suits people who have worked in government and have some experience with compliance, audit or investigative roles.  If you do not feel you have the necessary experience you may wish to consider the Fundamental version of this course.

5 days class room plus self paced, distant learning and workplace evidence based components. Average time for completion is between 12 months.

OVERVIEW
The Certificate IV in Government Investigations provides you, or your team, with the knowledge and skills required to enable you to undertake a government investigation. The course covers a range of key areas including gathering and managing evidence, interviewing, taking witness statements, giving evidence in court and reporting on investigations.

The Australian Government Investigation Standards August 2011 state that the minimum level of training or qualification recommended for investigations staff is Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or its equivalent.

Following successful completion of this course participants will:

• Understand the ethical, procedural and statutory basis for investigations within the public service.
• Identify relevant legislation, powers and responsibilities of authorised officers, including identifying offences and elements of an offence.
• Demonstrate a level of investigation skills and knowledge based on best practices used by law enforcement bodies.
• Develop & manage an effective investigation plan within statutory, regulatory or organisational guidelines.
• Demonstrate a variety of evidence gathering and handling techniques in accordance with relevant legislation and organizational guidelines/policies.
• Develop and implement advanced communication strategies including interviewing and operational briefings.
• Report on and finalise investigations including the preparation of a brief of evidence and giving evidence in Court procedures.
