Overview
The Certificate IV in Government Investigations is a comprehensive course offered by Public Sector Training Solutions (PSTS) to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills to undertake government investigations.
This course covers a wide range of areas such as gathering and managing evidence, interviewing, taking witness statements, giving evidence in court, and reporting on investigations.
PSTS specializes in customizing this course to suit each department’s requirements and legislation, and upon completion, students will demonstrate a variety of investigation skills and knowledge based on best practices used by law enforcement bodies.
Agencies may book a course exclusively for their staff that is fully customised. Alternatively, PSTS run multi-agency courses where the course consists of individuals from a variety of government agencies.
Course outcomes:
- Provides knowledge and skills for government investigations;
- Covers areas such as evidence gathering and management, interviewing, taking witness statements, giving evidence in court, and reporting on investigations;
- Recommended for investigations staff by Australian Government Investigation Standards;
- Understand ethical, procedural, and statutory basis for investigations within the public service;
- Identify relevant legislation, powers, and responsibilities of authorized officers;
- Relevant to criminal, civil, HR/ER investigations and inspections;
- Demonstrate investigation skills and knowledge based on best practices;
- Develop and manage an effective investigation plan within statutory, regulatory, or organizational guidelines;
- Demonstrate evidence gathering and handling techniques in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines/policies;
- Develop and implement advanced communication strategies including interviewing and operational briefings;
- Report on and finalize investigations including preparation of a brief of evidence and giving evidence in court procedures;
• Can be customized to suit each department’s requirements and legislation.
Due to this being an Intensive version of this course pre-assessment may be required.
